The Benefits of Beeswax Candles

The glands of worker bees convert the sugars in honey into Beeswax which is secreted through small pours as wax flakes. The wax flakes are chewed by the bees to soften them and then used to build the iconic honey comb. Throughout the warmer months we gather excess wax from our beehives to use in our products and find we have more wax than we or the bees can use. When cleaned and filtered, this wax can be used for these beautiful and beneficial candles. Since we only utilized the wax that the bees didn’t need, our candle production was limited to a little over 300 candles this season.

The candles represent the work many generations of honeybees accomplished this past season, and for that reason these candles are very special to us. We hope they bring you joy and you find them special as well. As we expand our apiary we look forward to producing more per season so perhaps we can carry them year-round.

Beeswax candle health benefits and their amazing brightness is what attracts most customers initially. Once you use beeswax candles it’s hard to go back to soy or synthetic candles. Beeswax candles are reputed to have several health benefits including:

  • Low toxicity. Because beeswax candles are all natural, they do not produce toxic byproducts or heavy soot when burned. Some types of candles produce minute traces of chemicals known to be carcinogenic, but this is not the case with clean burning beeswax candles.
  • Negative Ions: Beeswax candles produce negative ions when burned, and those ions help to neutralize pollutants in the air. This helps eliminate dust, odors, and mold in the
  • atmosphere, easing allergy and asthma symptoms and improving breathing for anyone nearby.
  • Relaxation: The simple act of burning a candle has relaxing properties and can aid in stress relief and meditation. The mildly sweet, natural honey scent of beeswax candles can aid that relaxation without being overwhelming as artificially scented candles can become.
  • Light: Beeswax candles have the brightest, purest light of any candles and are closest to natural sunlight so if the candles are to be used as a light source beeswax is best!
